95 Point Halliday Pack
2023 'Vaughan' Pinot Gris - 'Fermented in both stainless steel and wood, with some components receiving up to eight hours' skin contact. The different components were then blended and matured in foudre. Fragrant and discreet with aromas of stone fruits, nashi and ginger spice. This has flavour and structure, not always easy with this variety. Seriously good pinot gris and one that will still be looking good five years from now.'
2023 'Stephanie' Rose - 'Nebbiolo from the Malakoff vineyard. Mainly destemmed, pressed straight to older wood and aged on lees. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. A very pale salmon pink. Uber floral with small red fruits, this is a totally delicious and refreshing wine with just the right amount of both flavour and acidity. Perfect for drinking by the pool and will also handle a barbecued lamb cutlet with ease.'
2021 Estate Pinot Noir - 'About 50% whole bunches and 50% new French barriques. Bright crimson. A little more complex than the also very good 2022, which is on release too. Red fruits and rose petals together with a touch of reduction, which adds to the wine, giving it sapidity. Savoury and structured and with lots of energy. Needs time and food. An excellent showing.'
2021 Estate Shiraz - 'Whole bunches (50%); matured for 12 months in French barriques (30% new). An excellent crimson ruby. This perfumed wine has aromas of dark berries, peonies, fennel seeds, white pepper and star anise, while the palate is medium bodied, concentrated and elegant. There would be no harm opening this now, with food, but all the components are here for this wine to age gracefully over the next six to eight years, if not longer.'
